So when does a horse need dental treatment?
- Every 12 months (or 3-9 months if advised)
- Observation is key, quirks may be dental problem
- Quidding - urgent examination required, especially in the younger horse
- Bad Breath - urgent examination required
- Weight Loss or difficulty putting on condition - urgent examination required
- Horse is generally depressed, down or stressed
- Acting like they are angry with their food
- Dunking or washing hay before eating
- Refusing to perform movements or transitions in the school
- Head tilting or tossing during work
- Difficulties maintaining contact
- Horses react to pressure on there cheeks or appear headshy but are fine with their ears being handled
